| About Seniors Saving Seniors, Inc.What are we?We are an all-volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing and placing senior pets. We are a 501 (c ) 3 tax-exempt non-profit charity.
Who are we?We are Crista O'Hara and Shell Brodnax. We founded Seniors Saving Seniors, Inc. in the year 2000. Both of us are experienced rescue people. Crista O'Hara was the area coordinator for the Sacramento area Golden Gate Dachshund Club, Inc. rescue group. Crista has been training and evaluating dogs for the last 20 years. Shell Brodnax was the area coordinator for the SF Bay Area German Shepherd Rescue, Inc., but has now decided to dedicate all her time to Seniors Saving Seniors, Inc. Shell has been doing rescue for the last 6 years.
Why are we committed to senior pets? Both of us understand that the average adopter wants a young pet. After years of seeing perfectly good older pets be euthanized we decided to do something about it and form a rescue group dedicated to the older pet. We feel that the older pets have so much to offer. In most cases they are housebroken, have a good temperament and are very grateful to be rescued. They just want to love and please someone.
Why senior people? We all have a little "senior" in us! We feel that all people would do very well with a senior pet but senior people seem to really have the love and compassion to reach out to one of these homeless pets and love them. Senior people are gentle and loving and understand the need to welcome a senior pet. It has also been proven that adopting a pet to a senior person dramatically improves the quality of life for both of them. If you do not meet the age requirement you may still apply to adopt. We will not decline an adoption to a good home based on age.
What can you do to help?Help can come in many forms. Since we are a non-profit, all volunteer group donations are always needed. They can come in the form of supplies, cash donations or even gift certificates to stores that carry pet supplies. Help can also be adopting a pet, or referring someone to adopt a pet.
